Something will happen, soon
Goodnight, I Love You

“So, what are you up to these days?”

“Oh you know the usual.  A never ending barrage of poor life choices.  Running around namelessly and aimlessly through dive bars and sad cars.  Night stalking the same half-empty town in perpetuity.  I have some serious problems with bad drugs and worse women.  What about you?”

“Oh you know the usual.  Working at Allstate, Natalie is in soccer again this year. My husband John got promoted but they might want us to move to St. Louis eventually so he can work at corporate.  Also, refinancing the house and my sister Jen just had another baby.  I’m training for a half-marathon and I’m now vice-president of the PTA so that is taking up a ton of my time.  I barely know my own name some days.  Thank God for the BlackBerry right, hahaha.  Anyway, John and I are going to throw our annual Oscar party again this year.  You should come! It’s been so long, you haven’t even seen the new house.”

“Sure.  Facebook message me.”

“I will. I’m really depressed you know, this is all a front.  I’m barely keeping it together.  My heart is just breaking uncontrollably most days.”

“Yeah, I figured.”

“Alright, I gotta run.  Natalie needs to be picked up from her cello lesson.”

“Can’t miss that.”

“So nice talking to you again!  Seriously, come to our Oscar party.  I’m making seven-layer dip and quiche bites, oh and we’re going to do that thing where we each pick the winners beforehand and whoever gets the most correct gets a gift certificate to Olive Garden.”

“Can’t miss that.”

“Seriously though, I’m profoundly depressed.”

“I know.  You mentioned that.”

“OK, can’t wait to see you soon!  Goodnight, I love you!  And could you dress up a bit for the party?  Some of our friends from church are going to be there.”

“Whatever.”
